The Currency Collective comprises a senior team of seasoned professionals with a proven track record in African and global financial services.

Our collective alumni network spans MFS Africa (now Onafriq), Goldman Sachs, Deloitte Corporate Finance, Standard Bank, Yellow Card, Visa, PayPal, Boku, Cellulant, Transsion, Chase Bank, Rain, Moneygram,  Canal+ and others.

Across the team, we hold active experience in over 40 African markets and maintain on-the-ground presence in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi, Harare, Lagos, Amsterdam, Dubai, and Antwerp. Our members have built and operated payment infrastructure, managed AML and licensing programmes, led digital asset platforms, and founded fintech ventures across Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Our expertise spans six core verticals: payments and mobile money; foreign exchange and cross-border transactions; digital assets and Web3; regulatory compliance and financial crime prevention; investments, M&A, and corporate finance; and talent, immigration, and team-building for high-growth businesses.

Maxwell is a seasoned expert in pan-African corporate partnerships, business development, and digital financial infrastructure, with more than 16 years of experience driving commercial growth for leading platforms across Africa and the EMEA region. He specialises in high-value B2B partnerships, regulatory engagement, and cross-border payment ecosystems, with a strong ability to transform complex market insights into sustainable, high-performing partner networks. His expertise spans alliance management, embedded finance, and long-term relationship optimisation, consistently delivering strong commercial outcomes and exceptional partner retention.

Previously, Maxwell served as the founding Country Representative for Uber for Business in Ghana, where he built the company’s foundational partner ecosystem and marketplace alliances from the ground up. He later held regional business development and alliance management roles with fintech infrastructure leaders Onafriq and pawaPay, securing and managing strategic partnerships with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), commercial banks, and central banking sandbox initiatives. A Chartered Marketer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM-UK), Maxwell earned a B.Sc. in Marketing from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and remains focused on building institutional trust, governance frameworks, and scalable financial partnerships across emerging markets.

She spent more than twenty years at Standard Bank of South Africa in roles spanning client relationship management, credit analysis, and business banking. At Yellow Card Financial, one of Africa’s leading digital asset platforms, she led the B2B onboarding function, managing a team of analysts and overseeing KYC and KYB processes for high-value individuals and corporate clients across multiple jurisdictions.

At TCC, she brings that combination of regulatory rigour and client-facing professionalism to the onboarding and integration of new partner relationships.

John Maunganidze

John Maunganidze is a compliance and regulatory risk specialist with 18 years of experience across fintech, banking, mobile money, and financial crime prevention. He has held compliance and risk roles at Standard Bank, one of Africa’s largest financial institutions.

He holds CAMS and CGSS certifications and has hands-on experience with Actimize, SWIFT, and WorldCheck. John has led enterprise-wide AML, sanctions, and licensing initiatives at regional and global scale, including securing regulatory approvals that enabled cross-border expansion for major financial services organisations.

Mumba Mulenga

Mumba Mulenga is a sales and business development professional with over a decade of experience across Southern Africa and international markets. He has held roles at Cellulant and Transsion, two of Africa’s most significant technology and payments businesses. Shaped by an upbringing and career spanning four African countries, he brings genuine regional grounding to TCC’s market development work.

His focus is on identifying client needs and structuring solutions that align organisational capability with commercial opportunity — with a strong track record in revenue growth, customer retention, and cross-functional delivery across multiple markets.

Benard Ondoro
Regional Director, East Africa

Benard Ondoro is a fintech and digital payments specialist with extensive experience in enterprise payment systems and cross-border financial services. He has held roles at Chase Bank and Tuma.com, and at Flex Money, before co-founding Black Coffee Limited, an IT and services company focused on enterprise digital payments and cross-border remittance infrastructure, including cloud-based AML tools.

Benard brings strong expertise in payments operations, strategic business development, and digital financial services to TCC’s market expansion work across East Africa.

She has cultivated strategic partnerships with PayPal, MoneyGram, MTN, Vodafone, WorldRemit, and Airtel Africa. As CEO of The Currency Collective, she brings deep commercial expertise and trusted operator relationships to every engagement.
